How we got here:

Trumer Pilsner Berkeley
2003. Josef Sigl VII opens the second Trumer brewery in its 400-year history. Berkeley, California was chosen as the location, largely because the resource you need in the largest quantity in beer brewing is water. And for Trumer, the ingredients are everything. It turns out that Berkeley has water that is nearly identical to the water in Salzburg. This exceptionally soft water has less sediments and impurities, which affect a beer's taste. The brewery was built with the exact same attention to detail that the Sigl family has put into their beer throughout the years. The result is a true European pilsner brewed fresh on our shores.

1601. Fourteen years before the Mayflower landed, Trumer Brauerei started brewing beer in Salzburg. For the first 175 years of its existence, Trumer produced Bavarian style beers and did so patiently, slowly building upon the craft and gaining a reputation as a quality beer maker. It wasn’t until the purchase of the company by local hops merchant, Josef Sigl, that the Brewery became known and synonymous throughout the Austro-Hungarian Empire as an exceptional brewery.

With the introduction of the new Pilsner style lager, the Sigl family saw potential. They concentrated on perfecting the pilsner style, and soon became hailed throughout Europe for their artfully crafted beer. The proud tradition and attention to detail persists today at the brewery in Salzburg.
